The Sakuma Dam was constructed on the Tenryugawa River which stretches through Shizuoka and Aichi Prefectures. In addition to generating power, the dam has other functions such as being an important water source for the eastern part of Aichi Prefecture and serving as waterworks and industrial water supply provided by the Toyokawa Yosui Irrigation Channel. In winter, the water level drops dramatically creating a distinctive scenery. There are also features such as hiking paths around the Lake Sakuma in the roadside Toyama Area.
