The Tahara Festival is widely known for its floats on which karakuri puppets are displayed. This festival is held in mid-September every year involving gorgeous floats holding karakuri puppets from Kayamachi, Shinmachi and Honmachi parading around the city. These floats are designated as a municipal tangible folk cultural property. Nighttime floats with children doing hand performances are carried out and rocket-type, hand-held type and exhibition fireworks are displayed in addition to other activities.
