According to shrine legend, this shrine was dedicated by Usamiya of Buzen Province in the first year of the Keiun Period (704), then was reproduced in Kouwa 2 (1100).The weeping cherry blossoms on the shrine grounds bloom from a tree said to be over 350 years old.

The period during which these blossoms can be viewed is a week earlier than regular cherry blossoms (Yoshino cherry blossoms).
