This mountain has a height of 695m. The mountain is almost entirely surrounded by a virgin forest and the leaves turn vivid colors in autumn. Mt. Horaiji is home to the Toshogu Shrine, one of the 3 major Toshogu Shrines in Japan.
Details >The Nanohana Flower Festival is held to signal spring on the Atsumi Peninsula. This festival is held from January to the end of March every year with yellow nanohana flower fields all over the Atsumi Peninsula. The Irago Nanohana Flower Garden is one of the most prominent of the main venue. There are a number of events involving, viewing, dining and having fun at nanohana flower fields. Experience fields of nanohana flowers in full bloom for yourself!!
Details >This is held on August 15th every year on Mt. Manto in the Norimoto Area for sending off the spirits of the dead during Obon and warding off evil spirits. The manto lanterns are attached to the tips of 6m rope and courageous young people swing them around above their heads in a powerful manner.
Details >Tall palm trees are lined up along the roadside for a slight American west coast vibe in Japan. There are a lot of cars with out-of-prefecture license plates parked around the beach entrance with young people holding surfboards all over the place. This is one of the most prominent surfing spots in Japan with many events being held here including worldwide surfing events.
Details >The Sakuma Dam was constructed on the Tenryugawa River which stretches through Shizuoka and Aichi Prefectures. In addition to generating power, the dam has other functions such as being an important water source for the eastern part of Aichi Prefecture and serving as waterworks and industrial water supply provided by the Toyokawa Yosui Irrigation Channel. In winter, the water level drops dramatically creating a distinctive scenery. There are also features such as hiking paths around the Lake Sakuma in the roadside Toyama Area.
Details >Sakurabuchi Park is said to have started with the planting of cherry blossom trees along the Toyokawa River by the lord of Shinshiro Castle in the early 17th century. Visitors can enjoy beauty all year round with cherry blossoms in spring and changing colors of the leaves in autumn.
Details >There are many famous places for cherry blossoms in Toyokawa and the Sanagawa Riverside which flows through the center of the city is one of them. Around 800 trees were planted in 1951 in commemoration of river improvement completion displaying pink flowers every year which hang low and come into contact with the river surface. People such as volunteers have been carrying out work on the area in recent years creating a contrast with the yellow colors of nanohana flowers.
Details >Shibazakura Moss Pink Hill in the Chausu Highlands: The Floral Path to the Skies was constructed based on a 5-year plan starting in 2007. In spring, 400,000 pink moss bloom for an amazing shibazakura pink moss scenery from mid-May to mid-June. Around 300,000 people visit this tourist spot every year. The hills are like a floral path to the skies with 6 different varieties of shibazakura pink moss and the Southern Japanese Alps in the background.
Details >Shintoyone Dam was completed in 1972. It is a concrete arch dam which generates power. Visitors can enjoy taking a stroll on the dam and taking in the view of Onyu Ravine. Lake Midori which was formed by the dam features different types of breath-taking scenery all year round such as cherry blossoms in spring and changing colors of the leaves in autumn. There is a half-marathon which takes place on Lake Midori in autumn.
Details >The street car known as Shiden started operation in 1925 and currently carries people east from Toyohashi Station. The sharpest curve in Japan for railways with a radius of 11m is located at the Ihara Junction. This serves as a Noryo Beer Train in summer in which passengers can enjoy beer while riding and an Odensha in winter in which passengers can enjoy oden while riding.
Details >Mt. Myojin is located on the border of the southwest part of Toei-cho and Shinshiro. It is one of the tallest mountains in Aichi with a height of 1,016m. Myojin is a name given to praise the gods. Visitors can enjoy the popular hiking courses and the amazing view from the observatory at the top of the mountain through the year. Flowers such as the akayashio rhododendron and hosobashakunage rhododendron are in bloom from spring to summer.
Details >The Tahara Festival is widely known for its floats on which karakuri puppets are displayed. This festival is held in mid-September every year involving gorgeous floats holding karakuri puppets from Kayamachi, Shinmachi and Honmachi parading around the city. These floats are designated as a municipal tangible folk cultural property. Nighttime floats with children doing hand performances are carried out and rocket-type, hand-held type and exhibition fireworks are displayed in addition to other activities.
Details >The symbol of Gamagori, Takeshima Island, is connected to the land by a 387m long bridge and the entire island is designated as national natural monument. Yaotomi Shrine in the center of the island is one of the Seven Major Benzaiten Shrines in Japan. There is a walking path around the island where visitors can enjoy the scenery of both the sea and island.
Details >The Toyokawa Tezutsu Festival is known all over Japan for lighting off traditional hand-held fireworks which have been passed down for generations in the shrines of the city all at once. The pillars of flames instantaneously shooting out brilliantly towards the dark night sky and the thundering noises of last lighting off called a hane are an amazing experience. Onlookers can enjoy around 2,000 rocket and exhibition type fireworks including star-mine fireworks.
Details >Tezutsu hanabi hand-held fireworks are said to have originated in Toyohashi and they are one of the traditional cultures which have been passed down generation after generation for 400 years. These rare fireworks are made by men who light them off. Moso bamboo is wrapped with straw rope, gun powder is inserted and the gun powder is ignited. The brave men holding the Moso bamboo dare to light off these fireworks which shoot sparks 10m up in the air and give off a thundering sound called a hane at the end which shakes your entire body providing a thrilling experience for spectators.
