See | Seasonal Flowers | Spring
Veratrum stamineum var. micranthum (Lilaceae family) are perennial herbs that grow in bogs. The buds protrude at the end of March, and the flowers bloom in May. The leaves are a brilliant shade of green and the shape is long and slender. The height of an individual flower is about 1 meter. As the stem grows, small white flowers form in the shape of ears of grain at the end. A similar plant is Veratrum stamineum Maxim found in high mountains. Veratrum stamineum Maxim, which were in low areas during the cool season, escaped to the high mountains because of warming. However, the escape was too late, resulting in the evolution to the Veratrum stamineum var. micranthum. This variety is a relic. Veratrum stamineum var. micranthum are one of the groups of component plants around Ise Bay. Because distribution of these flowers is limited, they must be protected. They can be seen in the Imou Bog area.
